PLUS1 STANDS IN SUPPORT OF BLACK LIVES.
To address and continue the fight against anti-black racism and violence in the US, we have developed the PLUS1 For Black Lives Fund.
The PLUS1 For Black Lives Fund centers organizations that are invested in spreading information and taking action, empowering Black communities, keeping people out of the criminal justice system, and dismantling it more broadly.
Through this fund, PLUS1 is committed to addressing the legacy of slavery, combating white supremacy, and dismantling systemic oppression by advocating for the change needed to produce equality and freedom for through organizations like Equal Justice Initiative, Impact Justice, and The Bail Project.
* 30% of the PLUS1 for Black Lives Fund is set aside and committed to small grants for Black and Indigenous-led grassroots organizations.
PLUS1 FOR BLACK LIVES FUND ADDRESSES:
KEEPING PEOPLE OUT OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM.
As protests occur around the country, individuals are being jailed for taking to the streets and demanding justice. To support them, and keep them out of the criminal justice system (especially in the time of a pandemic), PLUS1 For Black Lives is supporting The Bail Project’s National Revolving Bail Fund, a critical tool to prevent incarceration and combat racial and economic disparities in the bail system.
CHANGING THE SYSTEM.
America was founded on slavery, and while that system was abolished, it’s apparent that its legacy lives on. Systemic problems require systems change. PLUS1 For Black Lives partners with organizations that strive to ensure fair treatment under the law regardless of race and social status, work toward criminal justice reform, policing reform, and narrative change to ensure the preservation of human rights within the justice system. The PLUS1 For Black Lives fund supports:
Equal Justice Initiative, who are committed to ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States, to challenging racial and economic injustice, and to protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society.
Impact Justice who dare to dream of a humane and restorative system of justice in the United States. Through innovation, research, policy, and advocacy, they are forging a new path to a justice system that is fair to all of us.
